The Cupertino Giant launched the App Storein July 10, 2008. Initially there were only 500 apps available in the app store. Between its launch more than a decade ago and today, it has helped Apple’s developers earning a whooping $120 billion in revenue (Apple revealed in a press release earlier this year).
More than a quarter of that amount was earned by developers in the last year alone. Games have been the top revenue generating section for developers on the app store, especially with one’s that come with monthly subscriptions, in-app purchases.
Apple is planning to launch a subscription based service (like Netflix) that would allow people to access premium gaming content for a monthly subscription. Customers would have unlimited access to third party games. It’s unclear yet how much the subscription would cost or what kind of games Apple might offer.
